More people than ever coming to Citizens Advice for help
The last year has seen record numbers for North Tyneside Citizens Advice. We’ve helped 15,078 people (12% more than the year before) with 70,785 problems, including:
- We gained £6,296,165 income for our clients – 10% more than last year
- We helped our clients write off £2,441,906 of debt – a 32% increase
- Including arranging repayments, we helped our clients deal with £4,283,960 in debts
- We provided a total value to our clients of £27,053,326 – that’s £24.97 for every £1 invested in our service
It’s also been a great year for developing our service:
- We’ve launched a new partnership scheme with NHS Northumberland Tyne and Wear to allow Mental Health patients to be referred directly for advice
- We’ve helped residents manage the transition to Universal Credit through Personal Budgeting Sessions in local Jobcentres
- We’ve surveyed local banks and benefit offices to improve access for homeless customers and claimants
- We’ve developed our system for reporting Hate Incidents through partnership working with other local agencies
2019 is the 80th anniversary of the Citizens Advice service, and we’re proud to have been advising North Tyneside residents since the Whitley Bay office first opened in September 1939. We expect demand for our service to be higher than ever during the coming year, and we’re ready to help people with free, confidential and independent advice, whoever they are and whatever the problem.
