We can all face problems that seem complicated or intimidating. At Citizens Advice North Tyneside we believe no one should have to face these problems without good quality, free, independent advice. That’s why we’re here: to give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.

“I currently work as a Social Welfare Adviser at North Tyneside Citizens Advice delivering debt, benefit and housing advice to clients. Whilst studying, I volunteered with Citizens Advice with the generalist team, before moving into a different career path. After 18 months, I realised I missed being a part of the impact the work of Citizens Advice has, both locally and nationally, and decided to return into my current role.

Citizens Advice has provided me with numerous opportunities to develop and learn about the problems being faced in today’s society. Although the training is challenging, the end result is a wealth of knowledge on the social welfare system in this country.

My favourite part of the role is implementing this knowledge with my clients and working through their individual situations, and seeing the positive impact my advice and action on their behalf has in their lives. We have a large team in our North Shields office with a friendly social atmosphere, making coming into work an enjoyable experience which I am proud to be a part of.”

“I joined North Tyneside Citizens Advice on the administration team to provide support to advisers and quickly rose to becoming an adviser myself, helping people nationally with a wide range of issues. The opportunity arose to progress and develop my skills to caseworker level, specialising in social welfare and debt.

I was invited to assist with developing our National Debt Advice Hub and now provide all levels of assistance to people across England. I joined Citizens Advice to make a direct positive impact and have found doing this throughout both the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis immensely rewarding, and the professional development has been invaluable.

My team are incredibly supportive and welcoming, and I encourage anyone who is interested in having a career in the Charitable sector to apply to Citizens Advice.”

“I am currently working as a Generalist Adviser at North Tyneside Citizens Advice. I have been working here 9 months and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I find it has a great purpose to the public and ensures that people can access the support they need. Every day presents a different challenge ranging from welfare benefits to employment and housing issues.

I especially enjoy attending our outreach services as it provides me with the opportunity to engage with the community and to understand the key issues client are facing. The team at North Tyneside Citizens Advice have been incredibly welcoming and support you as much as you need.”

“I recently joined North Tyneside Citizens Advice as a Generalist Adviser, and have been made to feel so welcome by everyone who works there from day one in what is a relaxed, all inclusive environment where everyone is approachable and supportive. The training and guidance in the early stages was very good and is always available and the job itself is very interesting due to the variety of subjects we help people with.

I have enjoyed speaking to clients on the phone, and also face to face in our outreach locations across North Tyneside. I believe this role would benefit potential staff members of all ages looking to broaden their knowledge and communication to help them in their future career in general, or within a workplace where progression is encouraged due to the transferable skills you will gain.”
